DESCRIPTION:Jim & Sue Waddington – come and hear Jim and Sue talk about their adventures locating and photographing the actual landscapes that inspired and influenced the brushes of the Group of Seven. \nJim and Sue Waddington began their voyage of discovery in July 1977.  Determined to locate\, document and photography the actual landscapes that inspired and influenced the brushes of A.Y. Jackson\, Franklin Carmichael\, Arthur Lismer\, Lawren Harris\, A.J. Casson\, J.E.H MacDonald\, Tom Thomson and Frederick Varley\, the Waddinton’s embarked on a 36 year expedition that saw them trek from one end of the country to the other.  The result is “In the Footsteps of the Group of Seven”\, an ambitious book travelling along ancient canoe routes to visit the sites. \n“An Evening With… Summer Series” at the Oxtongue Lake Community Centre  \nEvery other Wednesday from July 5 to August 30\, 2017 starting at 7 p.m. Come out to hear a special guest speaker from the area talking about wildlife\, local history\, their travels and a myriad of interesting topics. SUMMARY:Perseid meteor shower this week
DESCRIPTION:This year the annual Perseid meteor shower will peak Thursday night and Friday morning\, August 11-12\, 2016\, but shower meteors can be seen for a night or two before and after the peak. The shower happens when the earth runs into debris shed by comet Swift-Tuttle\, and the particles form streaks of light as they race through the atmosphere. At a dark location\, such as Oxtongue\, with no moon\, one can usually see 60 or more per hour. There are some indications that this year’s display may be one of the better ones; however\, this year the moon will cut down the number that can be seen until it sets about 1 a.m. The textbooks say the best observing is after midnight when our side of the earth is facing more directly the direction the particles are coming from; however\, the trails are longer and frequently more spectacular before midnight. The trails can be seen in any part of the sky\, but appear to originate in the constellation of Perseus which will be low in the northeast in the evening and get higher in the northeast as the night goes on. \nThis post was written by John Williams a local Oxtongue cottager who retired in 2002 from 32 years of teaching astronomy at Albion College in Albion\, Michigan.

DESCRIPTION:The Oxtongue Lake Community Centre Committee (OLCCC) has been hard at work on its plans for Canada Day.  It takes a great many people to pull off such a fantastic event and we hope everyone makes an effort to attend (rain or shine!). \nA brief summary of what to expect (which is subject to change): \nThroughout the entire day (11-2pm) the BBQ will be running\, there will be fire service displays\, face painting\, crafts tables and new this year will be a silent auction. \nAt noon we will be singing O’Canada\, hear welcome addresses and see an unveiling from OLAC. \n12:45  OLA’s Kids vs Adults opening parade and games will begin.   Please encourage your kids (and you) to compete against the adults as the main idea is participation and fun!!   (we changed up a few of our games…so I leave you with… what can we do with shaving cream and bathing cap??). \nCome dressed in your Canadian wear of red and white and be ready to have a great day!
